Getting Started

How do I download and install Zielfit?

Zielfit is available for free on the Google Play Store for Android devices.

  1. Open the Google Play Store on your Android device
  2. Search for "Zielfit" or tap the download button on our website
  3. Tap "Install" and wait for the download to complete
  4. Open the app and complete the onboarding wizard
How do I set up my profile during onboarding?

The onboarding wizard guides you through profile setup:

  1. Select your gender (male/female)
  2. Enter your current weight and height
  3. Enter your age
  4. Choose your goal: lose weight, maintain, or gain weight
  5. Set your activity level
  6. The app calculates your daily calorie target

You can update these settings anytime via Profile > Settings > Energy Calculator.

How do I change the app language?

Zielfit supports 14 languages including English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Swedish, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Arabic, Japanese, Hindi and Romanian.

Navigation: Profile > Settings > Language

The app automatically detects your device language, but you can manually change it in the language settings.

Is Zielfit really free?

Yes! Zielfit offers a 100% free version with these features:

  • Full calorie and macro tracking
  • Barcode scanner
  • Step counter with stride length
  • Weight tracking with history
  • Activity/training logging
  • Water tracking
  • 1 free AI photo scan

How do I switch between metric and imperial units?

Navigation: Profile > Settings > Unit System

You can switch between metric (kg, cm) and imperial (lbs, ft/in) units. The app will automatically convert all your existing data to the new unit system.

Calorie Calculation

How do I calculate my daily calorie goal?

Navigation: Profile > Settings > Energy Calculator

Zielfit offers two calculation methods:

  • Quick Method: Directly enter your desired calorie goal and macro percentages (protein %, carbs %, fat %)
  • Detailed Method: Step-by-step calculator that considers all factors for a scientifically accurate result
What does the detailed energy calculator include?

Navigation: Profile > Settings > Energy Calculator > Step-by-Step Calculator

The detailed calculator considers:

  • Gender: Male or Female
  • Body Data: Weight, Age, Height
  • Daily Steps: Your average daily step count
  • Sports: Up to 3 activities with duration and frequency per week
  • Weight Goal: Lose, maintain, or gain weight
  • Deficit/Surplus: How many kcal below or above maintenance
  • Macro Distribution: Protein %, Carbs %, Fat %

The calculator shows your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), Activity Calories, Training Calories, Food Thermic Effect, and Final Daily Goal.

Where are my saved calorie calculations stored?

Navigation: Profile > Settings > Energy Values

All your saved calculations are stored in the Energy Values screen. Here you can:

  • View all your saved calculations
  • See which calculation is currently active (highlighted)
  • Tap any calculation to make it your active goal
  • Delete old calculations you no longer need

Switching your active calorie goal is just one tap - perfect for different phases of your fitness journey!

How do I track macros (protein, carbs, fat)?

Zielfit automatically tracks all macronutrients for every food you log. Your macro goals are set during calorie calculation:

  • Protein %: Typically 20-35% (important for muscle)
  • Carbs %: Typically 40-55% (main energy source)
  • Fat %: Typically 20-35% (essential for hormones)

Your Home screen shows a visual breakdown of your daily macro intake with progress rings.

Food Tracking

How do I add food to my diary?

Navigation: Home > Add Food

In the Add Food screen, you have multiple options:

  • Camera Icon: AI Photo Scan - photograph your meal
  • New Button: Create a custom food entry
  • Barcode Icon: Scan product barcodes
  • Search: Search the food database
What are the different food tabs?

The Add Food screen has 4 tabs to help you find foods quickly:

  • All: Search the entire OpenFoodFacts database with millions of products worldwide
  • Weight loss: Curated database of common foods with verified nutritional data
  • Own: Your custom-created foods (visible only to you)
  • Favorites: Foods you've marked as favorites for quick access
How do I sort the food list?

You can sort foods by tapping the sort buttons at the top of the food list:

  • kcal: Sort by calories (lowest/highest first)
  • P: Sort by protein content
  • C: Sort by carbohydrate content
  • F: Sort by fat content
  • A-Z: Sort alphabetically by name

Tap again to reverse the sort order.

How do I create a custom food?

Navigation: Add Food > Tap "New" button

Enter the food details:

  • Food name
  • Serving size and unit (g, ml, piece, etc.)
  • Calories per serving
  • Protein, Carbs, Fat (in grams)
  • Optionally scan a barcode to link it

Free users: 1 custom food | Premium: Unlimited custom foods

How do I add a food to favorites?

When viewing a food item, tap the heart icon to add it to your favorites. Favorited foods appear in the "Favorites" tab for quick access. Tap the heart again to remove from favorites.

How do I adjust the portion size when adding food?

When you select a food, a dialog appears where you can:

  • Use the portion wheel to scroll through amounts
  • Directly type the amount in the input field
  • Select the meal type (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack)
  • See the live nutritional values update as you change the amount

How does AI Photo Scan work?

Navigation: Add Food > Camera Icon (top left)

The AI Photo Scan lets you photograph your meal and automatically detect the food:

  1. Point your camera at the food or upload a photo from gallery
  2. The AI analyzes the image and identifies the food items
  3. Review the detected foods with estimated portions
  4. Adjust portions if needed and add to your diary

Free users: 1 photo scan | Premium: Unlimited scans

What is the AI Chat Assistant?

Navigation: Bottom Navigation > AI Icon (center)

The AI Chat Assistant is your personal nutrition coach (Premium feature):

  • Ask nutrition questions in natural language
  • Get personalized meal suggestions
  • Use voice input - tap and hold the microphone to speak
  • Tap suggested quick questions to get started
  • Add foods directly from chat responses to your diary

The AI understands context and can help with meal planning, macros, recipes, and general nutrition advice.

Can I use voice input with the AI?

Yes! In the AI Chat screen:

  1. Tap and hold the microphone button
  2. Speak your question or command
  3. Release the button when finished
  4. The AI transcribes your speech and responds

Voice input requires microphone permission and works in all supported languages.

Barcode Scanner

How does the barcode scanner work?

The barcode scanner is the fastest way to log packaged foods:

  1. Tap the barcode icon in the food logging screen
  2. Point your camera at the product barcode
  3. The app instantly recognizes the product and shows nutritional info
  4. Adjust the serving size if needed and tap "Add"

It takes just 2-3 seconds to log a food item!

What if a barcode isn't recognized?

If a product isn't in our database, you can:

  • Create the food manually using the nutrition label
  • The barcode will be linked to your custom entry for future scans
  • Search for a similar product in our database

Our database is constantly growing with millions of products worldwide.

Does the scanner work offline?

The barcode scanner requires an internet connection to look up products in our database. However, products you've scanned before are cached locally, so you can re-scan those even offline. For full functionality, we recommend having a data or WiFi connection.

Which countries' products are supported?

Our barcode database covers products from all major regions including USA, Europe, UK, Australia, Canada, and many more. We have millions of products and the database is continuously updated. Regional and local products may vary in availability, but you can always add them manually.

Weight Tracking

How do I log my weight?

Logging your weight is simple:

  1. Go to the Weight section in the app
  2. Tap "Add Weight" or the + button
  3. Enter your current weight
  4. Optionally add a note (e.g., "after workout")
  5. Save your entry

We recommend weighing yourself at the same time each day for consistency.

How often should I weigh myself?

For best results, we recommend:

  • Daily: Weigh yourself first thing in the morning after using the bathroom
  • Weekly: If daily weighing causes anxiety, once a week is fine
  • Consistency: Same time, same conditions each time

Weight naturally fluctuates 1-3 lbs daily due to water retention, food, and other factors. Focus on the overall trend, not daily changes.

Can I see my weight progress over time?

Yes! Zielfit provides beautiful charts showing your weight trend over time. You can view your progress by week, month, or year. The chart shows your actual measurements plus a trend line to help you see the bigger picture. This makes it easy to track your progress toward your goal weight.

Can I sync with smart scales?

Zielfit integrates with Health Connect on Android, which allows data sync from compatible smart scales and fitness devices. If your scale connects to Health Connect, your weight entries can automatically sync to Zielfit. Check your scale's app settings for Health Connect integration.

Step Counter / Pedometer

How do I set a daily step goal?

Navigation: Profile > Settings > Step Goal

In the Step Goal screen you can:

  • Set your daily step goal (default is 10,000 steps)
  • Set your stride length for accurate distance calculation

Your progress is shown on the Home screen with a visual ring that fills as you reach your goal.

How do I set my stride length?

Navigation: Profile > Settings > Step Goal > Stride Length

Stride length is used to calculate the distance you've walked:

  • Default values: ~70 cm for males, ~60 cm for females
  • Enter your stride length in cm (metric) or inches (imperial)
  • To measure: walk 10 steps normally, measure the distance, divide by 10

Accurate stride length = accurate distance and calorie burn calculations!

How does the step counter work?

Zielfit's built-in pedometer uses your phone's hardware step sensor:

  • Steps are automatically counted in the background
  • View your step count on the Home screen
  • Tap the step card to see your step history
  • The pedometer runs with minimal battery impact
Why are my steps different from other apps?

Step counts may vary between apps due to:

  • Different step detection algorithms
  • How the phone is carried (pocket, bag, hand)
  • Whether Health Connect sync is enabled

For best accuracy, carry your phone in your pocket and enable Health Connect to sync with your fitness tracker.

Water Tracking

How do I track my water intake?

Navigation: Home > Water Card

Tap the water card on your Home screen to:

  • Add water with quick-add buttons (e.g., +250ml, +500ml)
  • Enter a custom amount
  • View your daily progress toward your goal
  • See your water intake history
How do I set my daily water goal?

Navigation: Profile > Settings > Water Settings

In Water Settings you can:

  • Use the recommended intake (calculated from your weight, height, age, gender, and activity level)
  • Set a custom goal manually
  • View in ml or fl oz depending on your unit system
How much water should I drink daily?

The recommended water intake varies based on:

  • Body weight: ~30-35 ml per kg of body weight
  • Activity level: More active = more water needed
  • Climate: Hot weather increases needs
  • General guideline: 2-3 liters (8-12 cups) per day

Zielfit calculates a personalized recommendation based on your profile data.

Activity & Training

How do I log a workout?

Navigation: Home > Training Card > Add Training

To log a workout:

  1. Select an activity type (running, cycling, gym, swimming, etc.)
  2. Enter the duration in minutes
  3. Select the intensity level
  4. The app calculates calories burned based on your profile
  5. Tap Save to add to your daily total
How are exercise calories calculated?

Calorie burn is estimated using:

  • MET values: Each activity has a Metabolic Equivalent value
  • Your weight: Heavier individuals burn more calories
  • Duration: How long you exercised
  • Intensity: Light, moderate, or intense

These are estimates - actual calorie burn varies based on individual factors.

Can I view my training history?

Navigation: Home > Training Card

Tap the Training card to see all your logged workouts for the day. The card shows your total training time and calories burned. You can delete entries by swiping or tapping the delete option.

Can I connect my fitness tracker?

Yes! Zielfit supports Health Connect integration, which allows syncing with popular fitness trackers and apps like Samsung Health, Fitbit, Garmin, and more. Enable Health Connect in your Zielfit settings and grant the necessary permissions to sync your workouts automatically.

Zielfit tracks your achievements and awards trophies for milestones like:

How do I export my data as CSV?

Navigation: Profile > Settings > Data Export (Premium feature)

  1. Choose the time period (Last 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or All time)
  2. Tap "Export CSV"
  3. Save or share the file via email, cloud storage, etc.

Perfect for sharing with coaches, nutritionists, or for your own analysis!

What data can I export?

The CSV export includes comprehensive data:

  • Daily food diary entries with calories and macros
  • Weight history and progress
  • Step count data
  • Training and exercise logs
  • Water intake

The CSV format opens in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet app.

How do I use the Analytics Dashboard?

The Analytics feature (available at zielfit.com/csv/) lets you:

  • Upload your exported CSV files
  • View beautiful interactive charts of your progress
  • Analyze trends in calories, macros, weight, and steps
  • Filter by date range (week, month, year)
  • Compare different time periods
Is my exported data private?

Yes! Your data is yours. When you export a CSV file, it's saved locally on your device. The web analytics tool processes your data entirely in your browser - no data is sent to our servers. You control who sees your health data at all times.

New users get a free trial to try all Premium features before being charged.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

From within the app: Profile > Settings > Manage Subscription (Premium users)

Or via Google Play:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app
  2. Tap your profile icon > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions
  3. Find Zielfit and tap "Cancel subscription"

You'll keep Premium access until the end of your billing period.
